About
Our Department of Philosophy is considered a leading department in Israel. The academic staff consists of outstanding researchers with international reputations. All the degree programs of the department take place in a relaxed, dynamic atmosphere where students receive individual attention, a wide range of elective classes, and accessible lecturers. The department offers unique programs at the B.A. and M.A. levels, and a research program towards a Ph.D.
A doctoral degree in philosophy is based on the independent and focused study of philosophical problems, or the study of clearly defined areas of specialization at the forefront of philosophical research. The program prepares students for an academic career in philosophy and other related fields.
Admission Requirements
A Master of Arts with a thesis in philosophy or related fields; supplemental studies; an interview with the intended dissertation supervisor. As detailed on Graduate Studies Authority website
Programs
Ph.D.
Employment
Post-graduation employment opportunities: Not many wanted ads say: “Philosopher wanted.” Bear in mind that B.A. students often study a double major which allows them to combine a “practical” degree with their degree in philosophy, that offers awareness, understanding, and also wisdom. Importantly, studies in the United States and other countries have shown (see department website for details) that philosophy students have a significant edge in the job market and have important tools that serve them, whichever field they work in, as long as their job requirements include thinking.
